Mystery Opossum
You know sometimes when you attend a book signing at a mystery bookstore you just might run into some unusual characters. Here is a picture of Terrill Lee Lankford' opossum. Yep, that's right, Lee's pet and she is an absolute sweetheart.

Please tell me his opposum (sp?) is of the stuffed variety. Otherwise I'd need to flee the scene. Always lived in the city,I'm afraid.

She, and I do mean she, is the real thing! Very gentle and friendly.
Aww. Actually, they are dumb as a door knob but can be quite sweet.

that scene in STREET RAISED, in Little Willy's San Pablo basement crib? autobiographical: i had a young possum for a room amte one time, he'd come out to raid the pail i used as a trash can, often while i was sitting there reading. possums have notoriously bad eyesight, so i'd always stomp my feet a few times when i saw him so he wouldn't freak out and buzz saw on my leg. problem is, rats & possums are mortal enemies; if the rats have the numbers they kill off the possums, if the possums have the numbers they kill off the rats. my little room mate was all alone, and i came home one night only to find what the rats had left of him (which wasn't much, there were LOTS of rats in that basement).
